My Racket and String Background
I’ve been playing tennis casually for around 7 years, mostly for fun! Over the years,
I’ve tested different rackets over the past two years, including the Head Speed Pro, Yonex EZone 98, and Babolat Pure Aero VS.
As for strings, I’ve primarily stuck to Yonex PolyTour Rev and Strike,
but I’ve also experimented with options like Grapplesnake Sniper, M8, ALU Power, and 4G.
Recently, I’ve been using the EZone 98 with PolyTour Strike strings.
Since I just switched to the Wilson Blade v9, I figured it was a good time to try the Solinco Hyper-G strings that everyone seems to be raving about.
It’s my first time with this racket and string combo, so bear with me if my thoughts seem a bit raw!
Feel and Feedback: Control with a Stiff Touch
My first impression? The feel is on the stiff side. I’ve used Solinco Confidential before, and while Hyper-G is a touch softer, it’s still quite firm.
That said, the control it offers is top-notch. My flat shots were precise, hitting the trajectory I was aiming for!
However, when it came to spin shots, I found the launch angle to be lower than expected.
I ended up clipping the net more often, especially when hitting from behind the baseline.
To get over the net consistently, I had to exaggerate my upward swing more than usual.
Power and Responsiveness: Lacking in Pop
As expected from a stiff string, power was limited. I had to really swing with full force to generate enough pop.
In comparison, it feels even stiffer than PolyTour Strike.
That said, comparing the power directly is tricky since the Ezone and Blade are such different rackets.
I’m planning to string the Blade with Strike next time to do a direct comparison and will update this review later.
Tension Maintenance: Decent Over Time
I’ve had about 7 sessions over 3 weeks, and the tension has held up well.
That’s something you can generally expect from stiff strings—they usually maintain tension nicely.
When I press down on the strings, they still feel tight. However, the feel has changed.
The crisp, solid feedback that I initially enjoyed has become muted and less satisfying over time.
This was a bit of a bummer since I prefer that distinct, sharp response from a stiff string.
Overall Thoughts and Conclusion: Is Solinco Hyper-G Worth It?
I totally understand why people hype this string—it’s everywhere on YouTube, and for good reason.
If you like a firm feel with excellent control, Hyper-G is definitely worth a shot.
But if you’re planning on using it for more than 3 weeks or prefer a softer feel, it might not be the best choice for you.
For anyone on the hunt for a vibrant neon-green string, you should absolutely give it a go.
But if you’re open to exploring, there are a ton of great strings that have come out recently, so maybe start with those and see what fits your style!
