US Open Mid-Tournament Review: Upsets and Drama

Alcaraz’s Shocking Early Exit

As a dedicated Alcaraz fan, his unexpected early exit was gut-wrenching.
He shared in interviews that he was already mentally and physically drained before the tournament kicked off.
You could see it in his matches—he just didn’t have his usual spark.
It seems the grind of competing in so many tournaments over the past months finally caught up with him.
Plus, the mental exhaustion was real. He openly admitted that he wasn’t in the right headspace, and honestly, it showed.
His expressions told the whole story—like he had way too much on his mind and didn’t get the break he needed after a busy summer.
Still, I have no doubt he’ll bounce back stronger. Alcaraz is mature, passionate, and determined, so I believe he’ll overcome this setback soon.

Djokovic’s Surprising Third-Round Exit

Even though I don’t root for Djokovic, his loss was still a shocker.
I was really hoping for a rematch between him and Alcaraz after their epic battle at the Paris Olympics.
Sadly, Djokovic couldn’t make it past the third round.
He mentioned in his post-match interview that winning Olympic gold took a lot out of him, and by the time he got to the US Open, he was running on fumes.
He claimed his body was fine, but his energy? Totally drained. That fatigue was evident in his game, especially with those 14 double faults—a stat we’d never expect from Djokovic.
It just wasn’t the consistent, machine-like performance we’re used to seeing from him.

The Remaining Top Contenders: Sinner, Zverev, Medvedev

Right now, the three players to watch are Jannik Sinner, Zverev, and Medvedev.
These guys are looking solid, and I have a feeling Zverev might make it to the final again.
As for Sinner and Medvedev, they’ll probably clash before the final.
Honestly, it’s hard to predict who’ll come out on top, but based on the third-round matches, I’d give Sinner a slight edge.
He’s in excellent form. Call it a gut feeling, but I think Sinner is poised for a deep run.

Personally, I’d love to see Zverev finally win a major. He’s been so close before, and it just feels like he’s overdue for a breakthrough.
