As an amateur basketball player standing at just 173cm, I’m always moved and inspired whenever I watch Japanese basketball player Yuki Kawamura in action.
Playing as a point guard for the Yokohama B-Corsairs in the B.League, Kawamura is a beacon of hope for short amateur basketball fans like me.
Kawamura’s Skills: A Source of Inspiration
Kawamura’s incredible dribbling skills and lightning-fast speed allow him to dominate the court.
Watching his plays, I’m reminded of the countless hours I’ve spent sweating it out on the basketball court.
His ability to evade taller defenders and execute precise layups and high-angle three-point shots resonates with the challenges I face when going up against taller players.
His skillful floaters and quick-release pull-up shots reassure me that even shorter players can confidently compete against taller opponents, motivating me to train even harder.
Overcoming Height: Lessons from Kawamura
In the NBA, being short is a significant handicap. Even in amateur basketball, I often feel the frustration of losing out on rebounds.
However, Kawamura’s performance has given me confidence that height can be overcome at an amateur level.
Seeing Kawamura lead his team to victory, even when other key players were struggling, was truly inspiring.
The moment he nailed a three-pointer over a much taller European player was a powerful reminder that I, too, can succeed.
A Powerful Performance on the World Stage
Kawamura’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he scored 29 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists against France, was deeply moving for a basketball fan like me.
Watching him hold his own among giants like Victor Wembanyama, I felt emboldened to play more confidently on the court.
Although the game ended in a tough loss, his performance reaffirmed my love and passion for basketball.

As someone who loves basketball despite being short, I will continue to support his career while striving to become a better player myself.
